It’s difficult to believe that 2021 is almost over. A new year will arrive before we realize it… have you thought of resolutions to make and keep for 2022? Common pledges like exercising more and finishing home projects may roll over from this year, but if we had to guess we predict many people in Hampton Roads will work to become better organized.
New Year’s resolutions apply well to anyone with a self-storage unit in Chesapeake. It’s easy to fall into the trap of moving boxes into this space without giving much thought to placement. Self-storage is for keeping extra stuff out of the house, right? Sometimes we tend to treat storage spaces like closets – you shove things in and worry about them later. Why not resolve to bring order to your unit?
In 2022, remember the three R’s:
Rearrange: Take a look at the current state of your storage unit. Are boxes stacked too high that some might topple over? Are heavy objects crushing the lids of plastic bins? Can you move around with ease or do you have to constantly move boxes to make a clear path? Survey how your inventory is arranged and see if you can improve upon it, especially if you plan to add belongings in 2022.
Relabel: Over time, labels will fade and tear. If you’re using bins and boxes that aren’t transparent, this is a good time to replace any damaged packaging and refresh your labeling system. Invest in larger stickers and write large and legibly so you can immediately see what items are in which box when you open your unit.
Re-evaluate: If you plan to add to your storage unit, maybe some things already there aren’t worth keeping. At least once a year, go through what’s in storage to determine if you wish to hold onto certain items or set them aside for donation or a yard sale.
