The first question you may ask once you’ve rented a self-storage unit in Chesapeake is, “What’s the best way to get all my stuff here?” Moving surplus furniture, clothing and other items into storage takes time and work, and you may be inclined to accomplish the task in one trip. Once you’ve secured friends or family to help, you need only to figure out transportation.
It’s especially helpful if the self-storage facility provides assistance. At Eden Way Storage Center, we offer free use of a moving truck to tenants with large and/or multiple items, depending on time and distance and the size of the unit rented (you can contact us for details). If you’re given the opportunity to haul your belongings in a free truck, you’ll save the wear and tear on your own car, and you may also find it’s easier to move ungainly furniture in and out of a spacious truck.
A few things to know should you borrow a moving truck from a self-storage facility, or if you rent one for the day:
Know the restrictions. Are you responsible for filling up the tank after use? Does the truck come with a hand truck or blankets? Make certain the truck and any tools are in the same condition when you return it as it was when you picked it up.
Take your time. If you’ve only ever driven smaller cars, you may not be used to steering a large vehicle. Before you head for home, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the truck’s dashboard, adjust your seating, and drive carefully. If you don’t feel a hundred percent comfortable driving, recruit a more experienced friend to help.
Dress for comfort and safety. Very likely you will spend some time crawling in and out of the truck’s space to make sure your belongings are secure. You’ll work up a sweat, too, so it’s important to wear clothing that allows you to move around. Wear closed-toe shoes to protect your feet, and hydrate to keep up your energy.
